Reliability and Validity of the Leisure Participation Assessment Tool for the Elderly in Evaluating Leisure after a Stroke
Jeong Eun-Hwa

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to verify the reliability and validity of the leisure participation assessment tool for theelderly, which can be used as a leisure assessment tool for stroke patients, and can measure the leisureparticipation, leisure exploration, and interference factors in multiple dimensions.

Methods: A total of 64 stroke patients participated in the reliability verification, and the internal consistency wasanalyzed by conducting a leisure participation assessment tool for the elderly. The concurrent validity wasanalyzed for correlation with the shortened version of the Nottingham Leisure Questionnaire. To verify thediscriminant validity, 55 healthy college students participated, and the evaluation results of the leisure participationassessment tool for the elderly were compared between the two groups.

Results: In terms of internal consistency, the Cronbach alpha value for all items was .749, indicating a highreliability. The result of the concurrent validity showed a high correlation, with a correlation coefficient of .851between the total score of the shortened Nottingham Leisure Questionnaire and the leisure participation item scoreof the leisure participation assessment tool for the elderly (p < .01). The discriminant validity result showed thatthere were statistically significant differences in the numbers of leisure activities and leisure exploration activities, and in the interference factors between the two groups (p < .01).

Conclusion: It was confirmed through a reliability and validity verification that the leisure participation assessmenttool for the eldery can be evaluated for stroke patients. It is expected that the leisure participation assessmenttool for the elderly, which is a multi-dimensional measure of leisure participation, can be usefully applied to theplanning and intervention of leisure interventions for stroke patients.
